Video transcription Swamps Swamps are areas characterized by trees and shrubs that grow in sandy or organic soil. They rest on a high water table or are subject to seasonal flooding. Swamps are the most common type of wetland found in the forests of the Mont Saint-Hilaire Biosphere Reserve. They contain red maples, black ashes, willows, alders, hemlocks, and many other species. Always flooded in springtime, some swamps dry out for several months of the year. Mont Saint-Hilaire Nature Centre © 2016, All rights reserved.
