Explore AGRICULTURAL PLAINS
Agriculture plays an important role in the Mont Saint-Hilaire Biosphere Reserve. Corn and soybeans are some of the most commonly grown plants in the Biosphere Reserve. Livestock farming is primarily comprised of cattle production. The development of agricultural activities at the beginning of the 19th century led to significant deforestation of the regional territory. This forest clearing caused certain animal and plant species to multiply. This is the case for the white-tailed deer—beloved by hikers, and loathed by farmers and apple growers.
