Since 1960, the Gault Natural Reserve is designated “Migratory Bird Sanctuary.” In the fall, Lac Hertel is a stopping point for waterfowl, such as geese and ducks. The Canadian goose is one of the most frequently spotted species on the lake. Groups of more than 1,000 can be seen toward the end of October. They use the lake to rest during the day and follow the sun’s movement to store energy.
